Facebook is the biggest social media network (by far) with over 3 billion active monthly users.

It’s robust features - Groups, Pages, Marketplace and Ads - make it a great and versatile tool for influence and commerce.

This lesson explains why Facebook is a go to platform for community building (fostering engaged audiences) and targetted advertising using key considerations for success.

Why facebook is so powerful:

  • The audience on it is massive and diverse, and includes people of all ages: 40% of people over 35 are on the platform with a significant Gen Z/Millenial presence and thus it’s a diverse demographic footprint. It’s also bar China one of the most broad audiences.
  • It has built in community features: Groups, Pages and Events: can be used to build communities quite quickly. These tools enable deep interaction and loyalty, and are group for building engaged communities around hobbies, causes or businesses.
  • The advertising platform is built in: and it allows for precise targetting (based on age, interests, and behaviours. The platform generated $84B in ad revenue in 2024, proving effective conversions. If you get the Ad model right, you can build cash flow positive campaigns quite quickly.
  • E-commerce and monetisation can be plugged right in: Marketplace and Shopify integration allow you to launch product on your page, subscriptions and sponsored posts all on the platform. A powerful way to monetise your page, once you have an audience.
  • Event and content distribution: Events and Pages allow for easy promotion of activities and content. It’s also great for sharing long form content.

Facebook is my number 1 platform for a simple reason. Psychologically it’s the strongest at leveraging social belonging. People like to contribute. Even the ‘laugh’ feature and emotion features are strong - and all the tools are integrated, so you’re not pushing users on and off the platform.
